Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Wet/damp. Outdoors. Work setting: Various locations. Commercial. Industrial. Residential. Tasks: Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems. Instruct apprentices. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Schedule personnel, tools and equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing. Supervise other workers. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites. Load, unload and transport construction materials. Clean and pile salvaged materials. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Plumber Red Seal Certificate. Gas Fitter Red Seal Certificate. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Driving record check (abstract). Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Overtime required. Fast-paced environment. Repetitive tasks. Tight deadlines. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus.
