Position Description <p>A temporary full time (1.0) Indigenous Student Success Coordinator is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. <p>Functioning in alignment with Local Education Agreements, Equity Scan Action Plan, and the District Strategic Plan, the role of the Indigenous Student Success District Coordinator is to support district-wide initiatives and help strengthen school-based efforts to enhance the academic achievement of Indigenous students. Your close ties with local Indigenous communities and deep understanding of their cultures will be instrumental in facilitating the success of Indigenous students within the Graduation Program. Utilizing a strength-based approach informed by both school-specific and district-wide data, in collaboration with school and district personnel, you will identify and address individual as well as systemic barriers hindering Indigenous student success.<p>Your responsibilities will encompass fostering improvements in instructional techniques and assessment methodologies at middle school and secondary levels, in alignment with the overarching District Strategic Plan. As an integral part of the educational team, your comprehensive grasp of educational reform, commitment to equity, adept communication skills, fluency in Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods, technological proficiency, and familiarity with the Graduation Program will be essential in supporting educators. These attributes will also be pivotal in fostering collaborative relationships with fellow team members and the Indigenous representatives of local communities. You will be under the supervision of the District Director of Instruction. <p>Qualifications and Experience <p> Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for) <p> Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level <p> Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students <p> Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills <p> Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.<p> Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community<p> contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student<p> feels a sense of belonging <p> Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn <p> Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition <p> Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning <p> Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity <p> Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity <p> Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience (experience with Grades 8-12 preferred) <p> A master's degree in a program emphasizing Indigenous perspectives or a related field <p> Completion of courses, programs, or significant learning experiences focused on Indigenous content and perspectives <p> Demonstrated expertise in creating inclusive learning environments that motivate all learners, particularly Indigenous students <p> Application of Indigenous pedagogy in assessment, instruction, and content delivery <p> Personal dedication to reconciliation and a profound understanding of the impacts of colonization on modern-day teaching and learning <p> Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills <p> Proficiency in leveraging various technologies to support student learning <p> Maste
