The School District Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suweten peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC. We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Come and enjoy over 200 lakes, rivers and streams and an abundance of outdoor recreation at your doorstep. Qualifications : Masters' degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work. Extensive experience in Mental Health Counselling. Direct experience in providing direct mental health services to children, youth and their families. Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness. Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioural, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric problems in children and youth. Broad knowledge of mental illness diagnosis and treatment. Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects). Broad knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counseling skills. Demonstrated success in working with community partners. Valid driver's license and vehicle as considerable travel is expected. Specific assignment to be determined by the school principals, in consultation with the District Principal of Student Services Key tasks and expectations related to this specialist position will involve: Provision of direct mental health services to children, youth and their families. Liaison and relationship-building with school staff as well as community partners. Provision of referral, counseling and integrated case management for children and youth with mental health issues. Instruction and awareness building with school staff regarding mental health in general. Promotion of prevention of mental health problems in children and youth. Assisting schools to implement recommendations from treatment centers. Working with district counselors, administrators and teachers in support of high-risk children and youth, Working with district student support services and school-based teams in supporting tier 1, 2 and 3 interventions for students exhibiting severe behavioral or mental health issues. Will use district communication systems for work-related communication, including routinely staying in touch with supervisors, colleagues and district departments as required. Special Note: The individual in this advisory position will be a BCTF member and, as per the BCTF Code of Ethics, will not be permitted to supervise teachers (as identified in the BLNTU Collective Agreement).
