6-month term position - approximately June to DecemberThe Opportunity:Port Saint John is part of the critical transportation infrastructure of Canada and a cornerstone of the New Brunswick economy. Port Saint John is Atlantic Canada's largest port by volume and has a diverse cargo base, handling 30 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, including dry and liquid bulks, break bulk, containers, and cruise.Port Saint John is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Labourer. As a part of the Port Facilities team, the successful applicant will complete the following tasks and duties in a professional and confidential manner.ResponsibilitiesYour Focus:Set up for events and cruise season.Ensure washroom facilities are up to Port standards during cruise and events.Safely operate the FMT gangways during cruise season. Respond and troubleshoot alarms.Provide general maintenance including, landscaping, painting, small construction projects, set up/tear down temporary fencing, etc.Perform construction or carpentry projects.Perform basic welding, plumbing, electrical, etc.Perform other Port maintenance activities such as, deliver ships water, snow removal, ladder and fender maintenance, gangway maintenance.Assist in the set and dismantling of the Long Wharf Christmas tree.Provide leadership and guidance to the student and casual workers when needed.Provide general support and basic maintenance and repair for work boat operations.Recommend ongoing improvements regarding operations to management.Manage competing priorities to ensure safe and secure operations.Utilize leadership and communication techniques to work with peers.QualificationsYou Have:High School Diploma.Minimum two-four years related construction experience.Transport Canada R2 security clearance or eligible to receive.Valid Driver's license.You Are:A team player.Dependable & professional.In good physical condition with the ability to perform medium to heavy lifting tasks.You share the following values, where you:Keep safety and wellness at the forefront and make decisions based on a safety-first approach.Demonstrate initiative, innovation, and perseverance in the face of obstacles.Treat people with respect and build trust by honouring your promises and being open and honest in your interactions.Believe in continuous learning and development for both you and your fellow team members.Include others in your work through community and stakeholder engagement and building relationships.Other InformationPort Saint John & What We Offer:Port Saint John operates on the traditional and unceded territory of the Wolastoqey, the Mi'Kmaq, and Peskotomuhkati Nations.
