Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Trucking company. Oil and gas industry. Tasks: Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Pay and receive payments for goods. Perform brake adjustments. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Transport and handle dangerous goods. Train staff. Supervise staff. Establish and implement policies and standards for the transportation and storage of goods. Ensure transport compliance with regulations. Organize and maintain inventory. Oversee the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles and goods. Arrange for shipping documentation and the tracking and tracing of goods in transit. Recruit staff.
