What is a green job on Job Bank?

Green jobs contribute to environmental preservation, conservation, and restoration. Their impact on the environment varies depending on the specific requirements of the job: it may be direct (such as a solar panel installer) or indirect (such as a financial advisor who recommends eco-friendly investment options).

In job search results, green jobs are identified when an employer indicates that the job they are advertising has tasks and responsibilities that contribute to positive environmental outcomes and is helping achieve Canada’s net-zero target.

In Job Profiles, green jobs are occupational groups that include job titles whose primary duties and responsibilities lead to positive environmental outcomes. Job Bank uses a list of occupations that were identified as "green" through a task-based analysis conducted by the United States’ Occupational Information Network (O*NET), which was recognized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and adapted to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in Canada. This list may change over time.
